Dialogue Den: Ethics, Governance, and Responsible Use of AI in a Changing Workplace

Developed by Adrian Cropley and Bonnie Caver

for IABC World Conference, June 26 at 8:45 a.m. CT

AI in the workplace (and our daily lives) is here to stay. Yet, what we see in use today is only the beginning of what working with AI will look like in the future. With this evolution, there will be many ethical crossroads that organisations and professionals must address, and creating governance and responsible use guidelines will be a role for all leaders in the organisation. Yet, communication professionals are ideally placed to lead these conversations internally and externally, especially when navigating the shifting state of trust and social expectations.

This session is designed to give leaders the tools to do just that. Bonnie Caver of Reputation Lighthouse and Adrian Cropley of the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence have developed the framework for an enlightening discussion about AI. With collaboration across ethics, reputation, change management, strategic communication leadership, and training disciplines, attendees will be led through a thoughtful journey of creating an organisation’s AI ethics, governance, and responsible use practice while aligning with existing ethics and governance organisational policies. Global best practices and lessons learned will be shared, and attendees are encouraged to bring their challenges and wins so that participants can learn from each other in this facilitated discussion.

Understanding dogs’ barks may be possible with the help of AI!

Exciting news for all the dog owners out there, scientists in Michigan are using artificial intelligence to try to understand what our dogs are saying.

They analysed various dog breeds, ages, and sexes, and inputted all different kinds of barks, whimpers, and yelps. The results found that the technology was accurate about 70% of the time! It is incredible to think that the data derived from human speech patterns could be tweaked to interpret animal sounds. This finding could have implications for the veterinary field and all animal welfare organisations.
