Haiilo Breakfast Club at the IABC World Conference Recap

At the recent Haiilo Breakfast Club, Sia Papageorgiou presented the findings of the Haiilo and CSCE strategic internal communication survey. The point of the survey was to uncover how internal communication professionals perceive their influence within an organisation and approach their internal communication work while pinpointing the barriers preventing them from adopting a strategic mindset and showcasing their value within their organisations. It also aimed to identify the key challenges they face in embracing a strategic approach to their work.

“Strategic internal communication is the focused, measurable effort of informing, engaging, influencing, and inspiring internal audiences around the organization's strategic initiatives, KPIs, culture, and change management opportunities.” - Survey respondent

Sia emphasised the importance of aligning communication efforts with organisational goals and provided a comprehensive eight-step model to achieve this. Below is the model and a very brief summary.

    Strategic Communication Model

This eight-step model ensures communication efforts are aligned with organisational goals:
    1. Identify business needs.
    2. Align communication with these needs.
    3. Define measurable objectives.
    4. Develop a measurement plan.
    5. Segment and analyse target audiences.
    6. Define key messages.
    7. Plan and execute tactics.
    8. Calculate ROI and provide insights.

This model is cyclical, which means by the time internal communication profesionals get to the stage where they're providing insight to senior leaders and other stakeholders, they identify another opportunity or problem that needs communication assistance.

The session was well-received, with attendees praising the insights shared. Following her talk, Sia facilitated a roundtable discussion focused on moving from tactical execution to strategic influence, sparking an engaging conversation among participants.

The results of this important research will be revealed and shared with our members soon, so please stay tuned.

    Sia's IABC World Conference Experience

Sia is currently attending the IABC World Conference in Chicago, and below she'll share some highlights from her first few days.

It’s amazing being in Chicago for IABC’s World Conference – Chicago is a fabulous city, and the food is brilliant!

Gosh I’ve missed my IABC friends from around the world – it’s awesome to see them again.

My Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) masterclass was a hit – I am loving the fact that so many people are interested in getting certified.

I am thrilled to be able to spend time with the IABC Chicago gang who participated in my GCCC concierge pilot – cheers to their ongoing success. To hear them announce they passed the CMP and SCMP exams and achieved their certification makes my heart sing! It’s been one of the most heartwarming experiences in my professional career.

The CSCE would like to thank all those who participated in the Haiilo Breakfast Club, those who attended Sia's GCCC masterclass, and everyone who attended Adrian Cropley's presentation "Ethics, Governance, and Responsible Use of AI in a Changing Workplace."

Enhancing Strategic Communication in the City of Casey

Sia recently had the privilege of spending two amazing days with the City of Casey communication team.

Working with this brilliant group of professionals, led by the incredible Gemma Harris, was an absolute delight. Team members from marketing, digital communication, internal communication, community engagement and media relations came together to supercharge their strategic communication skills and elevate their influence.

Over two days the group explored the eight steps to strategic communication management, how to build influence and trust, and the characteristics of a high-performing communication team. Everyone laughed a lot, shared stories, and the team even dubbed Sia their “comms personal trainer.”

Their dedication to their local community and commitment to excellence shines through in everything they do. This team embodies what it means to be passionate, innovative, and community focused. Their willingness to embrace new ideas and continuously strive for improvement is truly inspiring. Sia was particularly impressed by their collaborative spirit and the genuine care they demonstrate for the people they serve.

Here's to the City of Casey communication team – a shining example of what it means to care deeply about your work and the community you serve. Thank you for a wonderful two days and for being such an inspiring group to work with.

Here are some of the comments Sia received following the training:

🤩 “Robust course led by a bold, incredible, strategic communication professional. A must-do training course for all communication professionals wanting to elevate their expertise.”

🤩 “Thank you Sia for an amazing learning opportunity. Sia’s supportive and encouraging approach made the session really valuable, helping to boost confidence as well as uplifting our skills.”

🤩 “Three years of university basically summed up in an awesome two days.”

🤩 “This training was the best ever! Where has it been all my life? I love that it was practical, focused and prioritised learning outcomes.”
