During his last presidency, Donald Trump was found to have lied 30,573 times during his four years in office, or an average of 21 mistruths per day. Now, with his return to the White House, Trump and his supporters have targeted a new focus: DEI.
What is DEI?
DEI stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. These principles gained significant attention in 2020 following the George Floyd case, as organisations worldwide pledged to create more welcoming and inclusive spaces—or at least give that impression to stakeholders.
However, following President Trump’s re-election, the political winds have changed, and organisations are abandoning their previous DEI commitments to align with the new administration’s agenda.
A Shift in Policy
On 20 January, Trump signed an executive order ending DEI programs and hiring practices within the Federal Government. Additionally, private businesses like Target have also been pressured into abandoning their DEI goals, as Casey Weldon covers in his excellent article for PR Daily, which you can read here.
The CSCE’s Commitment
While the current administration may reject inclusive communication, the CSCE stands firm in its mission of ethical, inclusive, and transparent communication. Unlike some U.S.-based organisations, we will not abandon these core values.
