At the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence (CSCE), we fully support the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and its February 10, 2025, statement reaffirming its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

PRSA has recognised the growing challenges facing DEI initiatives, stating:

“At the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is unwavering. In recent years, DEI initiatives have become vastly criticized and often weaponized, leading to confusion among the general public. This has resulted in companies and organizations reconsidering or even retreating from their commitments due to shifting political and social pressures. Despite these challenges, PRSA remains steadfast in our belief that DEI is not a passing trend — it is fundamental to the future of public relations, business and society.”

We commend PRSA for its leadership in making this public statement at a time when it is more important than ever for our profession to stand firm on equity, fairness, and inclusion. DEI is not just a social initiative, it is a business and ethical imperative that strengthens organisations, fuels innovation, and builds stakeholder trust. Ultimately, it paves the way for a better world.

    DEI matters more than ever

As AI becomes more integrated into communication strategies, decision-making, and audience engagement, the need for DEI has never been greater. AI learns from data, and if that data reflects existing biases, it risks amplifying inequality rather than reducing it. From recruitment tools to automated content creation, unchecked AI can unintentionally exclude marginalised voices and reinforce stereotypes.

That’s why communication professionals must lead the way in:

    • Advocating for transparency and fairness in AI-driven communication.
    • Championing diverse and representative data to reduce bias.
    • Ensuring human oversight so AI supports, rather than replaces, ethical decision-making.

Our commitment to an inclusive future

At the CSCE, we believe communication is at its best when it reflects, respects, and uplifts all voices. We are committed to equipping communication professionals with the skills, knowledge, and strategic guidance to champion DEI in their work – both in traditional communication and the evolving AI landscape.

We stand with PRSA in ensuring DEI remains at the heart of our profession. Together, we will continue to shape a future where communication is a force for connection, inclusion, and positive change.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s advocate, educate, and lead together.

Take Our AI in Public Relations and Communication Survey

The Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management has partnered with the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence (CSCE) and Reputation Lighthouse — on a Responsible AI survey to understand the AI evolution better as it pertains to the Public Relations and Communication profession.

We want to uncover how professionals address ethical and responsible AI and benchmark professional insights and influence. This information will be used to prepare for the Global Alliance AI Symposium in Venice in May in conjunction with the Global Alliance’s Annual Meeting and European Regional Council Meeting. Based on this survey data and the AI Symposium, we will update the Global Alliance’s Guiding Principles for Ethical and Responsible AI and connect the dots to the Global Alliance’s Responsible Communication Movement. So, this is your opportunity to have a voice in this critical advocacy for our profession.

Your feedback is invaluable. By participating, you are contributing to research that will help define the next chapter of excellence in strategic communication.
