Celebrating Ten Years of Communication Excellence

Ten years ago, two communication professionals took everything they’d been advocating for – behind conference podiums, in boardrooms, over coffee – and turned it into something bigger.

What if we created a centre of gravity for strategic communication excellence?

What if we built a place where professionals could grow, connect, and lead with purpose?

What if we amplified the strategic role of communication, not just for individuals, but for our entire profession?

That idea became the Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence. And this month, we celebrate 10 years.

We’ve:

My personal highlights?

And I get to do it all with the brilliant Adrian Cropley OAM, FRSA, IABC Fellow, SCMP, GCSCE – my co-founder, confidante, and the other half of this wild, wonderful adventure. We’re different in all the right ways: we challenge each other, sharpen each other’s thinking, and bring different strengths to the table. Where I see patterns and possibilities, he sees angles and opportunities. And somehow, we meet in the middle to make it work. Every time.

To every client, participant, partner, member, friend and fellow communication professional who’s been part of our journey – thank you.
To those we haven’t met yet, what are you waiting for?

Hiring processes are still sidelining some of the most capable communication professionals — often for vague, unhelpful reasons like “too senior,” “too broad,” or “not quite the right fit.” Beneath those labels sit deeper issues: discomfort with experience, misunderstanding of judgement-based roles and a growing but rarely acknowledged problem of ageism.

This webinar looks ahead to hiring in 2026 and asks some necessary questions about how communication capability is assessed, why experienced professionals are so often overlooked, and what needs to change if organisations genuinely want stronger leadership, trust and influence.
