The Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence is proud to announce that Anthea Cudworth has been appointed a fellow, recognising her outstanding contributions to the field of strategic communication.

Anthea has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in communication strategy, stakeholder engagement, and leadership. Over the past 25 years, she has consistently demonstrated her expertise in driving effective communication within organisations, fostering strong relationships, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Anthea’s career trajectory is a testament to her strategic insight and leadership in communication. After qualifying as an Investment Manager in London and completing an MBA in Australia, she has spent almost two decades as a dedicated strategic communication professional. Over this time, she has been a trusted adviser to CEOs at five blue-chip organisations. “Anthea has significantly contributed to the evolution of the communication profession globally. Her comprehensive profile and enduring commitment exemplify the highest standards of our profession in both her career and many years of volunteer leadership,” says Adrian Cropley, Founding Partner at the CSCE.

Anthea is a long-standing champion for the profession, working with industry associations to advocate for best practices and recognise success. In 2010 she qualified as an Accredited Business Communicator with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). In 2011, she was influential in one of the first internal communications accreditation programs as the Asia Pacific member of Melcrum’s Black Belt International Advisory Board. She was invited to evaluate the highly regarded Gold Quill awards for the IABC, and she chaired the Blue Ribbon Panel in her state for four consecutive years before joining the global awards committee, where she will assume the role of chair next year.

Managing Partner at the CSCE, Sia Papageorgiou stated, “We are proud to recognise Anthea’s exemplary contributions and are confident her induction as a fellow will inspire current and future communication professionals.” As a CSCE Fellow, Anthea joins an esteemed group of professionals dedicated to advancing the practice of strategic communication. This fellowship acknowledges her significant achievements and her commitment to excellence in the communication profession.

Hiring processes are still sidelining some of the most capable communication professionals — often for vague, unhelpful reasons like “too senior,” “too broad,” or “not quite the right fit.” Beneath those labels sit deeper issues: discomfort with experience, misunderstanding of judgement-based roles and a growing but rarely acknowledged problem of ageism.

This webinar looks ahead to hiring in 2026 and asks some necessary questions about how communication capability is assessed, why experienced professionals are so often overlooked, and what needs to change if organisations genuinely want stronger leadership, trust and influence.
